Does Disney Sell Pornography?

Well, it’s that time of year again. Hamburgers are being thrown onto the grill, you can hear shouts of joy from the neighbor’s pool, and…Disney is selling porn?

Every year ESPN, a company owned by Disney, puts out their “Body” issue. In it they celebrate the body of various athletes and admire the potential of human physicality. What they’re really doing is showing nude pictures of your favorite male and female athletes.

Like it or not, pornography is becoming more and more mainstream, and while it would be easy to blame pornographic websites, Playboy or even companies like ESPN, it’s not their fault, it’s ours.

When Christians fail to shine a light on the dark parts of the word the sins in those dark places begin to thrive. Jesus entered this world as a light exposing the dark, hidden evils in the world and he was hated for it (John 3:19-21). We too have been called by God to expose the darkness that so many walk in (Eph. 5:11-14).

The truth is we’ve been terrible as lights when it comes to the issue of pornography. Pornography is becoming mainstream. Its reach is spreading and the number of marriages destroyed and souls lost as a result of this sin is increasing.

What can we do? As with anything else we ought first and foremost to pray for the courage to stand up against this popular sin and the strength to avoid falling into the temptation ourselves. We can also speak out about this subject. Talk to your children about pornography and why it should be avoided, share articles that deal with the subject, and encourage your preachers to preach on this subject at your congregation.

It’ll take a lot of work, but, if Christians would lift their voice against it, we could diminish the power of pornography within our lifetime. Or we could continue to remain silent and watch as companies start to mass-produce pornography, even companies owned by “family-friendly” Disney.
